Teaching and Learning Conclave

KGRCET Follows an outcome based approach faculties use innovative teaching methods to cater for the needs of OBE. As per the standard operating procedure all the faculty members implement 20% of their classes with student centric methods/innovative teaching methods. The implemented activities by the faculty in class room along with student reflections will be presented during monthly teaching learning conclave organized by CEED,  Faculty presentation critically reviewed and evaluated by external experts from different teaching learning centers across the world.

Best Practices:

KGRCET follows an Outcome Based Education (OBE) approach. Faculties use innovative teaching methods to cater for the needs of OBE. The pedagogies followed by the department is as shown in figure below.

best practices in teaching

Innovative Teaching Methods: By implementing student centric methods in the classroom, that helps to engage the students with different kinds of learning levels and creates an environment of activity-based learning which makes the content of the classroom more interesting and makes learning fun.

ICT Supported Learning

At the beginning of each semester students are registered in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs ) such as  NPTEL, Coursera & SWAYAM and watch videos, and faculty members support students in submitting assignments. In the classroom, students are encouraged to give presentations to improve their basic knowledge, communication skills in the respective subject.

Technology based Learning: In this method of learning, teaching methodology is supported by technology. Course websites are created using a Learning Management System (LMS) called CANVAS and students are given access to the website. The material related to the subject would be posted on the website for student’s reference. The Assignment questions are being posted by the facilitator. The same can be answered by the students. Students can clarify their doubts by posting questions, and discussions on the subject could be held on the website. Recorded videos of the faculty members using light board technology are uploaded on to youtube channels and the links for the same are shared with the students for access.

Project Based Assignment: To impart the practical knowledge to the students, Project Based Assignments (PBA) are implemented, in which students are formed into groups, each group consisting of advanced and slow learners. Depending upon the project they do students are assessed and graded individually.

Student centric methods, such as experiential learning, participative learning and problem solving methodologies are used for enhancing learning experiences

Efforts to keep students engaged: Students are being taught by the Active learning methodologies, these methods are implemented during the class depending on the learning outcomes for their respective courses, the various student centric methods implemented are given:

Think – Pair – Share: To facilitate and improve students’ articulating abilities, the faculty members implement this method. Faculty poses a question to students on a topic. Then students think individually for a while, pair with their peers and share their responses so as to improve their skills by way of participation.

Just a Minute: The faculty members adopt this method with a general topic or subject related topic given to students and they speak on a given topic in one minute. This enhances their effective communication skills and builds good confidence so that they are good at the subject.

Ice-breaking Activities: As soon as the faculty enters the classroom, faculty members pose a question to the students on the topic covered in the previous class to get the attention of the students and also this activity helps the students who are absent to the previous class.

Model Preparation: The students prepare a prototype model of their own idea under the guidance of faculties and participate in a hackathon program. Students are encouraged to build the models on contemporary issues with the help of faculty members. The developed models were showcased in poster presentations, conferences and technical fest.

Co-curricular Activities: Students participate in various co-curricular activities like workshops, Seminars, technical quizzes, technical expos, Hackathons to facilitate the development of mind and personality along with moral learning.

Brainstorming: The institution adopts this technique by implementing various students’ centric methods to enhance the creativity skills in young minds; in turn the students are capable enough to compete with the outside world as per the industry expectations.

Flipped Classroom: The faculty members adopt this instructional strategy to engage the students after the class room hours. The faculty members assign a topic to be prepared at home. The faculty members ask students to come up with their views and doubts if any to the next class.

Collaborative lLearning Practice (CLP): The institution implements CLP, in which the students are involved in various activities and they interact with their peers to share ideas and information to improve their learning, thinking skills.

Project Based Assignments: Students are involved in designing prototypes which make students acquire a deeper knowledge through experiential learning by active participation.

Google Classroom:

Google Classroom is a free suite of productivity tools that includes email, documents, and storage. Guest Lectures, semenars and awerness programs are conducted online mode, Classroom was designed collaboratively with faculty members to help them save time, keep classes organized, and improve communication with students.
