Department of Civil Engineering has organized a guest lecture on the topic “Soil Investigation for Civil Engineering Structures” on 07th December 2022 for our final year and third year students of the Department of Civil Engineering, KGRCET in offline mode. The eminent expert Mr. Nafees Ahmed (Retired Executive Engineer), Irrigation & CAD Department, Telangana had been invited to deliver the lecture. The speaker explained about the basics of soil investigation and what are the tests need to be carried out at the site before construction. He also took case studies to make student understand the concepts and all the students understood the borehole data how to be read. He explained soil investigation consists of two stages, such as firstly, Preliminary investigation. Reconnaissance survey which involves study of topography, excavations, drainage pattern, streams etc. Secondly, Detailed investigation which is carried out to study the nature, sequence and extent of subsoil strata and location of ground water table. During detailed investigation, disturbed and undisturbed samples are collected from different locations and from different depths by boring. After explaining, he interacted and asked few questions to students and almost all the questions were answered by the students. After the interaction, he then further continued his lecture where he explained about the field tests carried out with few case studies.
