Department of Civil Engineering had organized inaugural ceremony of IGBC, Student Chapter on 20th September, 2023 at KGRCET followed by a Seminar on Green Buildings. The main motto behind establishing the Student Chapter at KGRCET is to provide a platform to the students where they can interact with their peer group from around the section and with the professional members from around the globe. Several activities that would help the students in fostering their core knowledge and at the same time nurture their leadership and managerial skills are being planned as part of the academic year.In the inauguration Ceremony, Distinguished Chief guest Mr. C. Shekar Reddy, Chairman, IGBC, Hyderabad,Mr. Sundeep V, Senior Counsellor, IGBC, Hyderabad, Honourable Chairman, Mr. K. Krishna Reddy, KGRCET, RespectedPrincipal Dr. Y. Vijayalata, KGRCET, Respected, HOD, Civil, Dr. Soumya Singha,faculties, and students of Civil Engineering Department, KGRCET were present. All the dignitaries addressed to the gathering. Mr. Sundeep V, Senior counsellor demonstrated to the students about the key benefits for students through this student chapter, agenda of IGBC Student chapters, initiative forums,Green Building week celebration, participation in design competition, initiation of industry academia interaction, Visits to Green Buildings, opportunity to become a Green Building Professional, New Services and opportunities emerged. He also added the key benefits
institute and the faculty will receive. Students canenrol directly for online certification course on Green Built Environment. Faculties will have the opportunities to be accredited as “IGBC accredited faculty”.
After the inauguration ceremony, the Session on “Green Buildings” was taken over by Speaker Mr. Sundeep V. He initially started the session with inception details of IGBC (2001) followed by vision of IGBC. Further, he explained to the students about what are green buildings, need for green buildings, tangible benefits and National benefits through green buildings, history of green buildings, green building rating systems- key areas. He also demonstrated about the Year of inception with a brief detail of CII- Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre, Hyderabad, the IGBC HQ and India’s 1st Platinum rated Green Building. He stated it was inaugurated by H.E Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam on 14th July, 2004. He also gave information that how CII- Godrej GBC (Green Building Congress), IGBC HQ achieved- certified IGBC Platinum rated Net Zero Energy Building. Moreover, he shared the examples of certified green constructions such as India’s First IGBC Platinum, Green Railway Station, Secunderabad Railway Station, L& T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited, Rail Nilayam Secunderabad existing building-Gold rated and many more.
